Images overview

What image labels are, where the image screens live, and what each one is for.

StoreSpan keeps a copy of every product image in your store and lets you describe each one with labels. Labels make images easy to find and filter, decide which image is the product thumbnail, and are written into each image's description on BigCommerce so the rest of your tools see them too.

Two kinds of label

KindWhere the names come fromExamples
Colour labelsYour product options. On the Tags page you mark an option group as a colour, and each of its values becomes a colour label. You cannot type a colour label by hand.Black, Navy, Sand
Type labelsYou create them yourself on the Image settings page or straight from a label picker.front, back, detail, lifestyle

Each image can carry any number of labels. They show as small chips on every image card.

What reaches BigCommerce

Three things about images are written back to your store, each behind its own switch:

  • Image labels go into each image's description. See Sending labels to BigCommerce.
  • Image order sets the order of a product's images and which one is the thumbnail.
  • Variant images set the image of each colour variant.

Reading from BigCommerce never stops, even when a write-back switch is off.
